Our Story
United in Christ Lutheran Church is a new mission church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are committed to fulfilling our mission to SHARE THE JOY OF GROWING IN CHRIST'S LOVE. We share Christ's love through dynamic worship, service in the community and beyond, and building faith through building and nurturing relationships.
United in Christ was formed September 1, 1997 by the merger of two predecessor congregations, United Lutheran Church in Gilbert and Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth. Both congregations were in the process of searching for pastors. They decided to join together and become a new congregation: United in Christ Lutheran Church.
In May of 1998, the new congregation welcomed Daniel L. Johns as their pastor. In 1999, Eric Lemonholm came to United in Christ first as an intern, and then as a pastor. In the years since the merger, United in Christ Lutheran Church has steadily grown in active membership, worship attendance, and ministry. We are committed to fulfilling our mission to SHARE THE JOY OF GROWING IN CHRIST'S LOVE.
As part of our commitment to our mission, United in Christ has moved ahead in faith by building a church on the hill. Construction is well underway on our beautiful new building on a hill overlooking Highway 53 on one side, and a stunning view of a forested wetland on the other side, with plenty of room to grow. See Building Our Future for more details.
